“Where Hope has meaning when it comes to Life“
MISSION
Our mission is to assist and empower reentrants, organizations, and individuals so that they are positioned to be successful and valuable contributors to their communities.
VISION
ReCA inspires and motivates individuals and organizations to build high-functioning communities that promote life that is thriving, not merely surviving.
Our Services
Life coaching is defined as a co-created relationship, where a coach partners with a client in a thought-provoking and creative process, that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential by designing their future rather than getting over their past. Some of our go-to tools and questions to do so include:
- W.A.I.T. (Why Am I Talking – for listening to understand)
- How’s that working out for you?
- How will that move you forward?
- What’s next?
- What does that look like?
- That’s interesting…tell me more about that
- Vision Board – our best selves living our idealized future
“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.” — Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Our Program
ReCA is an organization founded and run by men who were incarcerated and who have created a new identity for themselves and are giving back by helping new reentrants as well as others do the same.
The ReCA life coaches are certified through the Institute for Life Coach Training (ILCT). These coaches were instrumental in spearheading the Federal Correctional Institution McKean’s Life Coaching Program. The men of ReCA have not only been successful on the inside, they have found great success on the outside as well.
Since returning to their communities, the ReCA founders and coaches have utilized evidence-based practices to not only deliver services but more importantly they have used these practices to turn their lives around. These men personally represent the evidence-based practices that they use as the foundation of their coaching. Their successes include becoming entrepreneurs, workforce development specialists, mathematics tutors, career development specialists, accountants, directors of curriculum development, and motivational speakers. They have facilitated programs at the Brockbridge Correctional Facility in Jessup Maryland and the Allegheny County Jail. In addition, they have worked side by side with professors from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford campus, Duquesne, Drexel, Michigan St, Stanford, Vanderbilt, University of North Carolina, and Princeton. Most recently, the ReCA team presented at the national STEM-OPS conference in St. Louis in October of 2022.
